Williamson in contention at NSU Golf Classic

MUSKOGEE, Okla. — The Northeastern State golf team shot 1-over-par during the opening two rounds of the 18th Annual NSU Golf Classic at Muskogee Country Club Monday. The RiverHawks had scores of 285 (+1) and 284 during the first 36 holes.

Tate Williamson blistered the course on the last 18 holes with the low round of the day at 6-under 65 and sits in second place in the medalist race. Williamson had a 2-under 69 in the opening round and shot 134 for the day, just one shot behind Arkansas Tech’s Austin Smith (67-66=133).

In the team race, Arkansas Tech surged to a sizeable lead. The Wonder Boys shot identical rounds of 277 (-14) for the day and will take an eight-shot advantage into Tuesday’s final 18 holes. Lindenwood is second at 562, followed by Southwestern Oklahoma State at 566 and NSU at 569.

A total of 18 players shot even-par or better over the first two rounds.

Southern Nazarene closed out the first day a stroke outside of the top 10 as SNU sits in 11th place through the first two rounds.

Rhett Bechtel paced SNU with a pair of 72 rounds to close the day at 144 in a tie for 25th. Preston Lovett is just one shot back after rounds of 75 and 70. His second round was the lowest for the Storm in either round and he is in a tie for 32nd. Dylan Igo is in a tie for 37th at 146 after rounds of 72 and 74 while Ryan Roberts is in a tie for 63rd at 150 with rounds of 76 and 74. Brady Liles rounded out the five with a 77 and a 78 for a 155 two-round total.

Harding is in a tie for sixth with Henderson State at 574 while Southeastern Oklahoma State is in 12th at 586.
