Wright moves along in defense of OGA Senior State Amateur title

Defending champion Kirk Wright rolled into the quarterfinals of the OGA Senior State Amateur Championship at Oak Tree Country Club Tuesday, defeating Frank Schield of Norman 7 and 5 in the first round and Craig Collins of Enid 4 and 3 in the second round.

Past champion John Stansbury of Edmond advanced, as did Jon Valuck of Oklahoma City, a frequent OGA championship contender. Nick Sidorakis, the general manager at Southern Hills Country Club, is the only Tulsan to advance, defeating Don Quint Jr. of Tulsa 5 and 4 and Michael Koljack of Broken Arrow 6 and 4. Tim McFarland of Edmond knocked off three-time champion Mike Hughett of Owasso 1 up in the second round.

The quarterfinals and semifinals are Wednesday and the championship match at 8 a.m. Thursday.
