PINEHURST, N.C. – After finishing second in the 36-hole stroke play qualifier for the 2017 North and South Women’s Amateur, Yujeong Son of Norman lost in the first round of match play 4 and 2 to Isabella Skinner at Pinehurst No. 2.

Son tied for second in the qualifier with Jaclyn Lee, two shots back of Gillman, and earned the No. 3 seed. Live scoring for match play is here.

Gillman, the 2015 U.S. Women’s Amateur champion, a University of Alabama standout and resident of Austin, Texas, defeated Hannah Wood of the University of Oklahoma 7 and 6 in the first round of match play.

Son (71-75—146) shared the opening round lead, but a double-bogey on the 18th Tuesday dropped her into a tie for second place.  Bethany Wu (74-74—148), Jackie Chulya (73-75—148) and last week’s North & South Girls Junior champ Aneka Seumanutafa (72-76—78) finished stroke play in a tie for fourth.
