EUGENE, Oregon – The Oklahoma State women’s golf team shot the second-best four-round score at the NCAA Championship in school history, but the Cowgirls fell just short of advancing to match play after a final round 4-over 292.

In 21 trips to the NCAA Championship, only OSU’s 2004 run (288-293-282-288-1151) topped this year’s 284-295-297-292-1168. The Cowgirls finished the final round of stroke play in 11th place at 16-over, which was just two strokes behind eighth-place Oregon for the final spot in the stroke-play competition.

Virginia Elena Carta of Duke was named the NCAA individual champion at 16-under par. UCLA posted the best team score with an 8-under total after four rounds.

Linnea Johansson closed a standout junior season with a final round 3-over 75, which helped her tie for 27th place. That brought her season stroke average to 72.74, which is the second best in school history. Only Caroline Hedwall’s NCAA individual title season in 2010 (71.14) was better.

Two-time Big 12 champion Kenzie Neisen carded an even-par 72 in the final round, which was good for a 36th place finish at 4-over 292. Just a sophomore, Neisen ended her season with the eighth-best stroke average in school history – 73.26.

Freshman Chih-Min Chen was just a stroke behind Neisen in a tie for 46th place after carding 73-73 in her final two rounds on the week. Overall, Chen was 5-over 293.

Emma Broze also shot even par 72 on Monday to close out the event in 72nd place at 14-over 302.

Maddie McCrary finished 64th at 10-over 298 in her first NCAA Championship, and her 73.06 season stroke average is the fourth best ever by a Cowgirl.
