GOLF Inc. accepting 2017 memberships, looks to expand junior golf and scholarship programs in OKC
Oklahoma City, OK – GOLF Inc. has launched its 2017 membership program to promote golf in metropolitan Oklahoma City, expand its summer junior golf and college scholarship programs, announced James M. Reid, GOLF, Inc. executive director.
“The GOLF, Inc. junior golf and scholarship programs are funded almost entirely by amateur golfers through membership, tournament participation and sponsor donations,” said Reid. “Each year, local golf professionals and volunteers devote their time to teach youth about the values of sportsmanship, skill and self-reliance. Your participation and support truly make a difference. Join us.”
GOLF, Inc. tournaments and special events begin in the spring, continue through the summer, and conclude in the fall. A complete schedule, including the Four Ball, Oklahoma City Amateur, Club Championships and Interclub, is posted in January so players may plan accordingly.
At the start of each summer, the GOLF, Inc. Junior Golf program provides instruction and training to help young people develop self confidence, learn the rules of golf, fair play and sportsmanship; to become stewards of their environment and better citizens; and instill an appreciation of competitive athletics by sponsoring, encouraging and presenting athletic contests, exhibitions and tournaments.
GOLF, Inc. presents college scholarships each year to students who demonstrate the values of golf and are in need of financial support.
An idea fostered by Floyd Farley, a former golf professional and course designer, the late U.C. Ferguson, Jr., a long-time director of golf at Lincoln Park Golf Course, and the late Wally Wallis, a golf writer for The Daily Oklahoman, GOLF, Inc. was formed in 1959 as a not-for-profit organization dedicated to the improvement and promotion of amateur golf in the greater Oklahoma City area with a special emphasis on junior golf. Participating GOLF, Inc. Oklahoma City area golf courses include Lincoln Park Golf Course, Lake Hefner Golf Club, Earlywine Golf Club, Trosper Golf Course, James E. Stewart Golf Course, Westwood Park Golf Course and John Conrad Golf Course.
