OCU opens up in fifth at NAIA Championship
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Oklahoma City University began play in the NAIA men’s golf championship by shooting a fifth-place 289 on Tuesday at the LGPA International Hills Course.
Sam Russell lead the 2nd-ranked Stars with a 70, which was tied for fifth. Matt Wells of William Woods (Mo.) sits atop the leader board with a 66.
3rd-ranked William Woods leads the tournament with a 282 through the first 18 holes of the par 72, 6,947-yard course.
The Stars knocked in 58 pars and 15 birdies. Oklahoma City’s Garrison Mendoza provided the Stars with a 71, while Anthony Marchesani and Mattew Cheung turned in 74’s and Jamie Warman produced a 76.
Temperatures stated at 76 degrees when OCU teed off with zero wind. The temperature grew to 86 degrees with up to nine mph winds.
