ORU in second, Oklahoma Christian sixth in Bob Hurley Shootout at Meadowbrook CC
TULSA – The Oral Roberts women’s golf team made a charge in the second round and was the only team to break 300 in the second round, finishing day one of the Bob Hurley ORU Shootout at Meadowbrook Country Club in second place at 605 (306-299). Lamar was the only other team to break 300 on the day and finished the first 36 holes at 599 (298-301).
Kennedy Ishee was a big part of the charge with a second-round 71 to move into a tie for second overall, one shot back of Olivereen Le Roux of Lamar.
In addition to Kennedy Ishee’s tie for second, freshman Beatriz Garcia is inside the top five, finishing the day in a tie for fifth overall at 149 (75-74).
For Oklahoma Christian, freshman Abigail Rigsby has put herself in contention against a primarily NCAA Division I field.
Rigsby fired an even-par 71 in the second round of the Bob Hurley ORU Shootout at MeadowBrook Country Club, putting the Courtenay, British Columbia, product at 9-over 151 on the day. She will enter Tuesday’s final round four shots behind the leader, Olivereen Le Roux of Lamar.
As a team, OC – one of only two non-Division I squads in the 17-team field – was tied for sixth after two rounds. The Lady Eagles posted a 311 team score in both their morning and afternoon rounds to stand at 622, 23 shots behind Lamar. Tournament host Oral Roberts was in second, six shots back.
Rigsby opened the tournament with a round of 80 on the 6,013-yard course before her solid second round, which included two birdies to offset her only two bogeys.
OC sophomore Kate Goodwin played steady golf in both rounds, firing a first-round 76 before an afternoon 77 that put her at 153, tied for 17th in the 90-woman field. She had three birdies in the opening round and two birdies and an eagle (on the par-5 No. 15) in the second round.
The Lady Eagles’ leader in the first round was senior Allison Sell, who was tied for fourth after shooting a 74 that included four birdies. Sell posted an 84 in the afternoon round and was at 158, tied for 38th.
Sophomore Elizabeth Freeman shot an 81 and an 82 and was at 163, tied for 62nd. OC’s other freshman, Ashton Nemecek, improved by eight shots from round to round, going from an 89 to an 81. Her 170 score had her tied for 79th.
