Recent champs all advance in OGA Senior State Amateur

The winners of the past four OGA Senior State Amateur Championships advanced into the quarterfinals Tuesday in play at Hillcrest Country Club in Bartlesville.

Defending champion John Stansbury of Edmond had a first-round bye, then edged Doug Perry of Oklahoma City 2 and 1. Kirk Wright, the 2013 champion, advanced with wins of 5 and 4 over Paul Thomas of Enid and 4 and 3 over Bradley Kropp of Edmond.

Mike Hughett of Owasso, who won in 2011 and 2012, moved on with a 4 and 3 victory over Pat Trowbridge of Tulsa and a 3 and 2 win over Gary Bonner of Norman in the second round.

Quarterfinal and semifinal rounds will be held Wednesday weather permitting with the finals scheduled for Thursday at 8 a.m.
