RiverHawks finish fifth at home tourney

BARTLESVILLE, Okla. – The Northeastern State men’s golf team finished fifth at its home tournament, the 17th Annual NSU Men’s Golf Classic. The tournament was contested at the par-71, 6,607-yard Hillcrest Country Club.

Northeastern State shot 301 in Tuesday’s final round to finish at 46-over-par 898 (298-299-301). Henderson State won the tournament after finishing at 22-over 874 (296-293-285). The Reddies fended off a late charge from second-place Southwestern Oklahoma State, which finished at 27-over 879 (296-298-285).  
Arkansas Tech placed third at 29-over 881 (299-292-290), and Washburn finished fourth at 46-over 896 (302-302-292).
 
Senior Brent Williamson shot 1-over 72 in the final round to lead the RiverHawks. He tied for eighth at 6-over 219 (74-73-72). Junior Tate Williamson landed at 8-over 221 (72-73-76) to finish T-13.
 
Junior Marc Johnson posted 15-over 228 (75-77-76) to tie for 31st, while true freshman Garrett McDaniel tied for 42nd at 18-over 231 (77-76-78). Redshirt freshman Justin Allenback rounded the NSU lineup with a T-48 effort. He finished 20-over 233 (78-78-77).
 
Junior Tayler Morse-Cherry (75-85-78) and redshirt freshman Casey Paul (79-80-79) both tied for 61st at 25-over 238.
 
Bryce Burke of Arkansas Tech shot 3-under 68 in the final round to win the individual honors at 3-under 210 (72-70-68).
 
Northeastern State will next compete at the MIAA-sanctioned MWSU Invitational, which will be contested Oct. 12-13 at St. Joseph Country Club in Country Club, Missouri.
