Saxon, Majors combine to win Oak Tree National Pro-Scratch
Former Oklahoma Sooner Charlie Saxon and Draegen Majors combined to shoot 9-under par 64-69 and win the annual Oak Tree National Invitational Pro Scratch by a shot over the team of Bill Allcorn and Charlie Crouse, who shot 70-64.
Oak Tree Gang members Bob Tway, Scott Verplank, Willie Wood, Gil Morgan and David Edwards were in the field, but the day belonged to young pros such as Saxon, Allcorn, who came out of Baylor in 2009, and a trio of pros whose teams tied for third, including defending champion Talor Gooch, Will Kropp and Ryan O’Rear, all players competing on mini-tours with eyes on the PGA Tour.
It was the second major four-ball championship in as many weeks for Majors, the former Southern Methodist player from Tulsa, who combined with Lawrence Field to win the Trans-Miss Four-Ball Championship Sept. 17 at the Honors Course in Ooltewah, Tenn. Saxon, also from Tulsa, completed his eligibility at Oklahoma last spring.
