Section pros in match play duels at Forest Ridge
Maybe it helps to talk a good game as well as play it. Tracy Phillips, co-host of the Swing Fit Golf Oklahoma Hour, as well as frequent guest hosts Pat McTigue of GolfTec Tulsa and Michael Boyd of The Club at Indian Springs, were three of the eight section professionals to move into the quarterfinals of the PGA South Central Section Match Play Championship at Forest Ridge Monday.
Play continues today with quarterfinal and semifinal action, with the championship match scheduled for Wednesday morning.
McTigue defeated Trent Rommann 2 up and Jim Young 4 and 3 and is facing Boyd Tuesday morning. Boyd, who played last week in the PGA Professional Championship, defeated Jeremy Dear of LaFortune Park 2 and 1 after a first-round bye. Phillips downed Kyle Flinton of Quail Creek Country Club 4 and 3 and then defeated Bruce Baxley 4 and 3.
Phillips faces Brian Soerensen of Kickingbird Golf Course in Edmond. In another quarterfinal, Mark Fuller of The Golf Club at Surrey Hills faces Kyle Ingram of Little Links in Broken Arrow. The other quarterfinal pits Shannon Friday of Lake Hefner Golf Course in Oklahoma City against Steve Ramsey of Dornick Hills in Ardmore.
