Sides, Cascia Hall prevail in Class 5A; Chaney boosts Plainview in Class 4A

Coleman Sides of Cascia Hall shot a final-round 2-under 70 to claim the individual title in a playoff over Ben Lathrop of Heritage Hall and help lead his team to a 30-shot victory over Heritage Hall in the team race.

Sides, whose brother William Sides plays for Southern Methodist, and Lathrop both finished the 54-holes of regulation play at 5-under 211.

Cooper Watson of MacArthur was third at 218 after a closing 68, while first-round leader Banks Cozby had a rough final round of 83 but still took fourth at 222. Trace Overland of Cascia Hall was fifth at 223, followed by Parker Payne of Noble at 224.

Cascia Hall finished at 874 and Heritage Hall at 904. Third place went to Carl Albert at 931, followed by McAlester at 960 and Duncan at 975.

Plainview team wins 4A.

Class 4A at Shangri-La Resort on Monkey Island

Jace Chaney showed good golf runs deep in the family as he won the Class 4A state championship and helped his Plainview team do the same.

Chaney’s sister Reagan is a starter for the University of Oklahoma and father Wes is the director of golf at Dornick Hills in Ardmore. Jace shot a final-round 75 at Shangri-La to pull away to a seven-shot victory over Jackson Magness of Crossings Christian and eight shots clear of Connor Whitworth of Poteau.

Plainview finished 14 shots ahead of Oklahoma Christian School with Crossings Christian another shot back in third.

Class 3A at Muskogee Golf Club

Oklahoma State signee Collin Bond shot a final-round 5-under 66 to win the individual title by seven shots and help Community Christian to a runaway 69-shot victory over Metro Christian in the team race.

Bond’s teammate Will Whorton was second at 217 after a final round 71. Kaden Risenhoover of Stigler placed third at 218, followed by Porter Finley of Metro Christian at 219, Bliss Newton of Lone Grove at 225, Jeff Cooper of Stroud/Davenport at 226, Lane Boyles of Marlow 229, Preston Whitmarsh of Lincoln Christian 231, Dillon Mackey of Kiefer 232 and Brody Newton of Lone Grove, Caleb Wilson of Lincoln Christian and Jackson Kennedy of Community Christian tied for 10th at 233.

The Latta Panthers bested Thomas-Fay-Custer by 44 shots to win the Class 2A state title, with Regent Prep of Tulsa another nine shots back in third.

Carter Ray of Walters shot a final-round 75 and claimed the individual title by eight shots over Benton Manly of Regent Prep. Parker Pogue of Latta was 11 shots back in third, followed by Jackson Jones of Pond Creek-Hunter, Gabe Jones of Pond Creek-Hunter, Rhett Gray of Latta, Britt Bailey of Oklahoma Christiana Academy, Ricky Willis of Sayre, Spencer Bullen of Nowata and Tead Woods of Shattuck.
