Thomas, Tulsa take second in Texas State Invitational
KYLE, Texas –– The Tulsa women’s golf team placed second at the 54-hole Texas State Invitational on Tuesday, led by Lilly Thomas’ second-place performance at the par-72 Plum Creek Golf Course.
Tulsa scored a tournament total of 891 to finish nine strokes behind team champion BYU. The Hurricane carded a final round 298, while Thomas turned in her best round of the tournament with a score of 2-under par 70 for an overall 54-hole total of 2-under par 214.
Thomas finished the first nine holes with five straight birdies to sit at 5-under par at the turn. Her only hiccup on the day came on the par-4, 370-yard 14th hole when she suffered a triple bogey. Thomas gathered herself and parred the final four holes to complete the round.
Thomas finished three strokes behind individual medalist Annick Haczkiewicz of BYU.
Tulsa seniors Haley Greb and Lorena Tseng and freshman Lovisa Gunnar, who’s score did not count in the team total since she was playing the event as an individual, finished in a tie for 18th place. Gunnar carded a final round 74, Greb shot 76 and Tseng 79 as they each finished with 11-over par scores of 227. It was Greb’s and Gunnar’s top performances of the season.
Freshman Sydney Seigel finished in 26th place with a final score of 230 after her best of the three rounds today at 73.
Tulsa will be back in action next at the Columbia Classic in Melbourne, Fla. On Sunday-Monday, Feb. 13-14
