TU’s Mabrey shoots 1-under in first round of Lubbock Regional
LUBBOCK, Texas – University of Tulsa senior golfer Matt Mabrey, playing as an individual at the NCAA Lubbock Regional and is tied for 21st place after the opening round of action at the par-72 Rawls Course.
Mabrey counted two bogeys on the front nine and another on hole 10 before getting three straight birdies on holes 11, 12 and 13 to pull back even-par. He saw one more bogey on 16 but finished out the round strong with two addition birdies on 17 and 18, finishing the day with a score of 71, 1-under par.
In the team race, second-ranked Texas leads the field at 273 (-11), followed by No. 35 Houston (274), No. 48 Duke (276), No. 9 Texas Tech (278) and Purdue and No. 26 California tied in fifth place (279).
The tournament field includes 13 teams and eight other individual competitors. The low five teams and low individual not on those teams will advance to the NCAA Championship at The Concession Golf Club in Bradenton, Fla. from May 29-June 3.
