Wright, Hughett to battle for OGA Senior State Amateur crown

Kirk Wright of Oklahoma City and Michael Hughett of Owasso, winners of this event three of the last four years, will battle for the championship of the Oklahoma Golf Association Senior State Amateur Thursday morning at Hillcrest Country Club in Bartlesville.

Hughett closed in on his record 17th OGA title with a 3 and 2 victory over Jon Valuck of Oklahoma City in the semifinals. He defeated Paul Dickson of Del City 2 up in the quarterfinals.

Wright, who won this event in 2013 while Hughett won it in 2011 and 2012, saw an early lead disappear and had to go 22 holes to edge Jim Curd of Bartlesville. Wright defeated Tom Nielsen of Edmond 3 and 2 in the quarterfinals.
