CORDOBA, Argentina (Nov. 20, 2020) – Santiago Villareal Deheza, one of the top junior golfers in Argentina, has signed to play collegiately at Oklahoma Christian, OC coach David Lynn said Friday.
Villareal Deheza is ranked in the top five among under-18 junior players in Argentina and is listed on the World Amateur Golf Ranking at No. 2,298. Since April 2019, he’s posted six top-10 finishes in high-profile amateur events in South America, including the Chile Youth Championship.
He is a friend of current OC golfer Mateo Pulcini, who is from Rio Cuarto, Argentina. Lynn has had much success through the years with players from Argentina – including Pulcini, current West Texas A&M coach Axel Ochoa and OC Athletic Hall of Famer Bruno Buccolo, among others – and is intrigued by the potential of Villareal Deheza.
“I am extremely excited to sign a player of Santiago’s ability,” Lynn said. “Santi will add to a wonderful group of players we have had over the years from Argentina. He has a very diverse playing experience on many different courses and in all types of weather. I look forward to his impact on our 2021-22 squad.”
Villareal Deheza is the first player to sign with the Eagles during the current NCAA signing period.
