Balanced Sooners on Miami’s heels in Hurricane Invitational
Oklahoma women’s golf finished the second round of the Hurricane Invitational in second place on Tuesday after carding a 292 (+10). With a two-day score of 577 (+1), the Sooners are just three shots behind first-place Miami with 18 holes remaining at the par-72, 6,150-yard Biltmore Golf Course in Coral Gables, Fla.
All five Sooners in the lineup are in the top 28 of the individual standings, including four golfers in the top 11.
“We didn’t play as well as we would’ve liked, but we still have one round to play and are in a great positon,” said OU head coach Veronique Drouin-Luttrell. “It will be important for all of us to play one shot at a time and one hole at a time.”
Senior Rylee Pedigo remains in third place after shooting an even 72. Pedigo began the day with three birdies in the first six holes and secured her round with a birdie on 18. With a two-day score of 141 (-3), Pedigo trails first-place Renate Grimstad of Miami by two strokes.
Three Sooners are tied for 11th after each recording a 146 (+2) in the first two rounds. Senior Ana Ruiz saw the biggest climb, entering the day in 36th place and moving up 26 spots after shooting a 2-under 70.
