Baumgartner, OSU roll to victories in Mountaineer Invitational

BRIDGEPORT, W. Va. Oklahoma State’s men’s golf team pulled away from the field on Tuesday at the Mountaineer Invitational to pick up its first victory of the season at Pete Dye Golf Club.

During the third round, the Cowboys carded the low round of the day by seven shots, firing a 9-under 279 to finish 20 shots clear of the field. OSU finished at 11-over 875 at the par-72, 7,308-yard layout.

Individually, OSU had four players finish in the top 10 with Jonas Baumgartner leading the way with his first career victory. The junior closed with a 2-under 70 to finish at even-par 216 and two shots clear of the field. Baumgartner turned in even-par 36 before reeling off three consecutive birdies to start his inward nine. After posting a bogey at the 13th, he wrapped up his round with five consecutive pars.

With his victory, Baumgartner (right) became the 65th different Cowboy to claim medalist honors in program history.

Junior Bo Jin rose 27 spots into a tie for second place at 218 after finishing with a bogey-free 65. After beginning his round with four pars in a row, he carded birdies at the fifth and sixth to turn in 2-under 34. His second nine included birdies at Nos. 11, 12, 14, 15 and 17 to come home in 31.

Senior Dillon Stewart, who was competing individually, carded a closing 70 to jump 12 spots into a tie for sixth place at 221.

Fifth year Leo Oyo earned a top 10 of his own after signing for a 76 to finish at 222 and in sole possession of 10th place.

Senior Hazen Newman posted his second consecutive 74 to finish at 225 and tied for 21st place.

Fifth year Rasmus Neergaard-Petersen fired his low round of the event, a 2-under 70, to move into a tie for 39th place at 231.
