DENTON, Texas (Sept. 21, 2021) – Alexandria Bennett led No. 24-ranked Oklahoma Christian with an even-par 72 in the final round on Tuesday as the Eagles posted an eighth-place finish in the power-packed Dallas Baptist Classic at Wildhorse Golf Club at Robson Ranch.

OC was one of 10 ranked squads in the 19-team field and the Eagles finished ahead of three teams currently ahead of them in the Women’s Golf Coaches Association’s NCAA Division II poll – No. 8 Missouri-St. Louis, No. 12 Tampa (Fla.) and No. 18 Arkansas Tech.

The Eagles’ final-round team score of 307 put them at 904 for the three-round tournament. No. 2-ranked Lynn (Fla.) won with a score of 871, seven shots ahead of No. 5 St. Mary’s (Texas) and eight ahead of No. 1 Dallas Baptist (Texas). Six of the seven teams that finished ahead of OC were ranked.

Bennett, a junior from Plano, Texas, had four birdies during her final round on the 6,182-yard course, during which she and the Eagles contended with temperatures in the mid-80s and wind gusts from the north up to 20 mph, making for challenging playing conditions. She was OC’s top individual finisher, placing 18th in the 96-woman field at 222 (6-over).

OC sophomore Camilla Jarvela of Espoo, Finland, tied for 25th at 224 (8-over). Her final-round 76 also included four birdies. Freshman Haley Blevins of Edmond, Okla., tied for 49th at 231 after shooting an 80 on Tuesday.

The Eagles’ other players were junior Wilma Merenmies of Raasepori, Finland (tied for 59th at 233 after a final-round 84) and freshman Sarah Sherrard of Moore, Okla. (tied for 67th at 237 after a 79).

Madeline Ananthasane of North Georgia earned medalist honors, finishing at 209 (7-under).

OC’s next tournament will be the West Texas A&M Fall Invitational, set for Oct. 4-5 at Tascosa Golf Club in Amarillo, Texas.
