Blake, Strickland, Riu earn all-league honors for ORU

MAYETTA, Kan. – Avery BlakeKate Strickland, and Cristina Riu of the Oral Roberts women’s golf team earned Summit League postseason honors, league officials announced Friday morning.

The Summit League released the 2024 Women’s Golf All-League teams today with the 2024 Championship at Firekeeper Golf Course set to tee off Sunday. A vote of the League’s eight head coaches determined the teams, which included 10 repeat recipients.

Blake earned a spot on the First Team as she led the Golden Eagles with a 73.24 stroke average, good for fourth-best among league golfers. She captured a tournament individual title at the Bama Bash shooting 2-under par to go along with three top-five finishes and five top-10 finishes this season.

Strickland was a Second Team selection after a fantastic sophomore campaign. Through 16 rounds, Strickland was second on the team and seventh in the league in average strokes at 74.44. She had four top-10 finishes throughout the year including closing out the regular season with three straight second-place finishes.

Riu was the final Golden Eagle to earn league recognition as she claimed a spot on the Honorable Mention Team. Riu won the Ozarks Invitational individual title earlier this season.

Top-seeded Denver led all teams with five selections, including a trio of Emma Bryant, Clara Gestsdottir and Anna Zanusso on the first team. Oral Roberts’ Avery Blake and St. Thomas’ Kathryn VanArragon rounded out the first team by earning their first career all-league honors.

Zanusso, a four-time first team honoree, led all League golfers with a 72.3 stroke average in 26 regular season rounds, while Gestsdottir, who is a two-time all-league recipient, followed close behind with a 73.0 stroke average.

Zanusso has recorded two top-three finishes this season and four top-15 finishes in stroke play in some of the top tournaments in the country. Gestsdottir garnered two top-15 finishes and three top-25 finishes in NCAA Championship-caliber fields while Bryant, who had a 74.5 stroke average, finished the regular season with one top-10 and two top-25 finishes.

VanArragon led the Tommies with the third-best stroke average in the league (73.11). The UST rookie has finished in the top-five at five events including a tournament individual crown at the Tommie Invitational.

The five-member second team saw four repeat all-league honorees in Denver’s Katarina Drocarova and Anna Krekling, North Dakota State’s Elise Hoven and Oral Roberts’ Kate Strickland. St. Thomas’s Isabelle Lynch earned all-league accolades for the first time in her career.

Drocarova finished the regular season with a 74.5 stroke average, one top-10 finish and a pair of top-25 finishes while Krekling, the reigning Summit League Championship MVP, yielded a 74.8 stroke average with a top-10 finish during regular season action.

Hoven averaged a team-best 74.4 strokes over 25 rounds, which ranks sixth among league golfers. She recorded a team-best four top-10 finishes, including two placements in the top five.

Lynch has five rounds at or below par this season for a stroke average of 74.22, second lowest on the team. She has one tournament individual title to go along with three top-five finishes.

The honorable mention team was made up of two-time all-league honorees Madi Hicks of North Dakota State, Cristina Riu of Oral Roberts and Piper Stubbs of South Dakota State. Earning all-league honors for the first time in their respective careers, the Tommies’ Emma Davies and the Jackrabbits’ McKenzie Mages rounded out the honorable mention squad.
