Blonien moves on as WOGA quarterfinals stacked with talent

Defending champion Natalie Blonien advanced to the quarterfinals of the Women’s Oklahoma Golf Association State Amateur Championship at Indian Spring Country Club Tuesday. But it wasn’t easy.

Blonien, entering her sophomore season at the University of Arkansas, downed Juliana Hong of Norman North 2 and 1 in the second round. Hong, a senior at Norman North, was coming off her first victory on the AJGA circuit last week in Texas.

The victory moved Blonien into the quarterfinals Wednesday morning against Layne Ailshie of Fort Gibson and the University of Central Oklahoma. Ailshie defeated Taylor Tevis 3 and 2 in the morning and edged Allie Justiz of Edmond 1 up in the second round.

Most of the pre-tournament favorites also advanced to the quarterfinals. Jenni Roller of the University of Tulsa downed promising 12-year-old Dia Singh of Bixby 3 and 1. She will meet Olivia Coit of Edmond and Arkansas State, who went 21 holes to knock off Lucy Darr of Stillwater and Oklahoma State.

No. 1 seed Lisa Herman of Jenks moved on with a 3 and 2 victory over Beans Factor of Tahlequah. She will meet University of Oklahoma and Ardmore native Reagan Chaney, who rolled into the quarterfinals with a 7 and 6 rout of Sophia Lefler of Jenks.

Brooklyn Benn of Edmond and Wichita State University defeated Jaiden Gregston of Duncan and Ball State 5 and 4 in the second round. She will meet Peyton Coburn of Tulsa and Bradley who edged Megan Kalapura of Tulsa 3 and 2 in the second round.

Quarterfinals are Wednesday morning and semifinals Wednesday afternoon. The championship match is Thursday morning.
