Broken Arrow’s Gearhart signs with NSU
TAHLEQUAH — Coach Scott Varner has announced the signing of Harrison Gearhart with the intent to join the Northeastern State men’s golf program for 2017-18.
Gearhart is signing from Broken Arrow High School and is one of the top players out of the Tulsa metro area this year. Gearhart played with current NSU student-athlete Tyler Shelnutt for the Tigers in high school under head coach Lance Allen.
Last season, Gearhart led Broken Arrow to a second-place finish in the Class 6A State Championship and finished tied for ninth place individually. Most recently, he finished in the top-20 at the prestigious Red River Shootout contested between members of the Oklahoma Junior Golf Tour and Texas Junior Golf Tour.
"Harrison is rapidly improving based on his elevated play this past year at Broken Arrow and in junior golf," said Varner. "He is really coming on strong right now, passionate about the game, and hungry. Loves to compete and he is excited about playing at the college level.
"Harrison had a great spring last year and carried it into his summer and fall play in Junior Tour events, and had an outstanding OJGT fall."
