Burrows, Laughlin lead ORU to fifth in Pepsi Cola Classic

LAS CRUCES, N.M. – The Oral Roberts men’s golf team improved again in the final round of the Pepsi Cola Classic, moving up to a fifth place team finish at 885 (299-294-292). UTEP was the only team to finish under par on Sunday and won the event by 12 shots at 855 (291-282-282).

Led by Cody Burrows’ tie for seventh, ORU earned its third top five finish in five tournaments, and second in a row during the fall season. The Golden Eagles were third at both the Memphis Invitational and Herb Wimberly Intercollegiate before finishing fifth at the Pepsi Cola Classic.

Hunter Laughlin finished his fall with a two-under 70, his second round under par this year. Laughlin also shot two-under in the opening round at the Trinity Forest Invitational.

ORU had 13 birdies on Sunday. Laughlin accounted for five of them.

Sunday’s action concluded the fall season for the Golden Eagles. ORU will return to competition February 11 at the Sports Authority Intercollegiate in Mobile, Alabama.
