Camarena paces Cowgirls in Sugar Bowl Intercollegiate
NEW ORLEANS — Freshman Sara Camarena anchored the Oklahoma State women’s golf team in the first round of play at the Allstate Sugar Bowl Intercollegiate Championship in New Orleans.
Starting on the back nine, Camarena went 3-under on the first nine holes and ended the day at 1-under 71 and tied for seventh place. She will enter the second round of play only three strokes behind leader Ana Belac of Duke, who shot a 4-under 68.
As a team, OSU shot 9-over 297 and finished the first 18 holes tied with No. 27 Michigan State for eighth place. No. 3 Texas leads the field at 3-under 285.
Cowgirls Liana Bailey and Chih-Min Chen are tied for 33rd place with 3-over 75. Han-Hsuan Yu shot 4-over 76 to land in a tie for 46th place. Michelle Forsland is tied for 69th at 6-over 78.
The Cowgirls will tee off for the second round Monday morning at 9 a.m. central time. Fans can follow the team at golfstat.com.
