Canyons at Blackjack Ridge reopens with repaired greens
The Canyons at Blackjack Ridge reopened all but five of its greens today and the remainder will be ready by Aug. 11, according to Director of Golf Brian Talley.
The Sand Springs course had been closed for most of 2020 for a huge renovation including greens, clubhouse, irrigation and more. It opened to rave reviews in 2021, but the new Champion Ultradwarf Bermuda greens suffered heavy damage from the February deep freeze. The decision was made to close and resprig the greens, which was done June 18 and 18.
The new greens have come in well, like a champion, according to Talley.
“I think they are fabulous,” he said. “I think they’ve grown in really well. I want to credit superintendent Nick Neal and his crew for doing a great job. They put down the sprigs and have nursed them along.”
Greens 1, 2, 5, 13 and 17 will use temporary greens until next Thursday, a which time all 18 new greens should be open.
After being closed most of 2020 and then having to shut down again, Talley is glad to have his course back and hopes for no more interruptions in play for the foreseeable future.
