College roundup: Lady Sooners, TU men, women in action
The University of Oklahoma women’s golf team finished Sunday’s first round of the Alamo Invitational in eighth place. The 15-team event is being played at the 6,428-yard, par-72 Briggs Ranch Golf Club in San Antonio, Texas.
The Sooners logged an 18-hole 291 (+3) and are 16 strokes behind co-leaders Arkansas (ranked seventh) and Auburn (ranked 19th). No. 23 LSU finished the round in third place with a 279 (-9).
Freshman Ana Ruiz and sophomore Alexandra Kaui led the Sooners, both recording a 71 (-1). Ruiz was at 3 under par before bogeying the final two holes, while Kaui recorded four birdies in her last nine holes. The duo shares 16th place out of 78 competitors.
OU’s Rylee Pedigo is tied for 33rd place after posting her best round of the season in relation to par. The freshman recorded three birdies and carded a 73 (+1).
Sooners freshman Hannah Wood shot a 76 (+4) on the day and is tied for 60th place. Sophomore teammate Maggie Neece shot an 80 (+8) and is in 74th.
Sixth-year OU head coach Veronique Drouin-Luttrell said she was excited to see her young team’s hard work pay off.
“We played better today. It was fun watching us make more putts,” Drouin-Luttrell said. “I’m proud of the way we’ve been practicing up to this event, and we’ve definitely improved in some of the areas we’ve focused on over the last few weeks.”

COLLEGE GROVE, Tenn. – The University of Tulsa men’s golf team finished round one of the Intercollegiate at The Grove Sunday afternoon with a team total of 299, last in a 12-team field. The Golden Hurricane will be back on the links Monday and Tuesday to wrap up the tournament.
Senior Matt Mabrey led TU with an even-par 72 and is tied for 14th. Fellow senior Colton Staggs had four birdies and shot 74, while Cody Kent, the other Hurricane senior, shot 75 and is currently tied for 36th place.
Troy has three golfers in the top five and is leading the team competition at 9-under par 279.

The University of Tulsa women’s golf team is in 17th place in an 18-team field at the Las Vegas Collegiate Showdown following opening round action Sunday afternoon. The Hurricane carded 310 at the Boulder Creek Golf Club in round one on the par-72 course.
Sophomore Nadia Majidizadeh led Tulsa with a 76, followed by Alex Haun at 77.
