College roundup: TU fifth, state schools in action
The Tulsa men’s golf team carded rounds of 286 and 288 on Monday for a 2-under par score of 574 at the 29th Annual Louisiana Classics. Tulsa’s Logan McCracken carded rounds of 69-71 for a 4-under par 140 and fifth place at the par-72 Oakbourne Country Club.
Illinois is in first place by 13 strokes with a 27-under par score of 549 and is followed by second-place LSU (562). Host Louisiana (567), LA Tech (573) and Tulsa (574) rounded out the top-five teams after two rounds.
Tulsa junior Matt Mabrey and freshman Matthew Marquez shot 1-over 145 to tie for 23rd place after the first 36 holes. Senior Mark Mumford carded rounds of 70 and 76 for a 146 total to finish the day in 29th place, while junior Colton Staggs enters Tuesday’s final round in 43rd place after rounds of 75 and 74 for a 149 total.
Individually, Illinois’ Brian Campbell sits in first place with rounds of 69 and 66 for a nine-under par 135 score.
The final round takes place on Tuesday.

Rogers State Women in fifth at Tanglewood Resort
The Rogers State women’s golf team completed day one in a tie for fifth place at the Texoma Chevy Dealers Intercollegiate, hosted by Texas A&M Commerce, at The Tanglewood Resort.
Senior Whitney Hocutt led the way for the Hillcats with an opening round 79, tied for third place.
With windy playing conditions, Raquel Trevino followed, firing an 86 good for a tie for 30th. Kelsey Stuever and Kina Boone each shot an 87 to tie for 36th and Chelsea Burney rounded out the group with an 88, tied for 40th.
Cameron University sits in first place with a team score of 325 and tournament host TAMC is in second with Texas Wesleyan, each carding a team score of 336. Western Texas Community College sits in fourth with a score of 337 while RSU and McMurry are two shots back with a team score of 339 apiece.
Shelby Hill of Lubbock Christian sits in first place with a first round score of 74. The tournament will finish on Tuesday with a shotgun start 8:30 a.m.
NSU men in fifth at Dave Falconer Memorial
RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. – The Northeastern State men’s golf team is tied for fifth after the first round of the Dave Falconer Memorial, which is being held at the par-72, 7,047-yard Chamberlyne CC.
The RiverHawks posted an 11-over-par 299 in the first round and are tied with Harding and Missouri Southern State. The round marked the 11th time this season that NSU has shot lower than 300. Henderson State and Arkansas State lead the field at 1-under 287. Southern Nazarene (5-over 293) and Southwestern Oklahoma State (6-over 294) also sit between NSU and the leaders.
Junior Brad Hager and freshman Tate Williamson are both tied for 18th at 2-over 74. Sophomore Michael Varner carded a career-low 75 to land in a tie for 23rd, while freshman Marc Johnson is a stroke behind and tied for 36th at 4-over 76. Junior Josh Strimple shot 9-over 81 and is tied for 75th.
Michael Hearne of Southern Nazarene and George Adams of Southern Arkansas are tied for the individual lead at 4-under 68.
The final round will be contested March 11.
