Cortadellas named golf student-athlete of the week
OKLAHOMA CITY (March 18, 2014) – Add another landmark honor to the list of those won by Oklahoma Christian golfer Anna Arrese Cortadellas.
For the 10th time in less than two full academic years and the fourth time during the 2013-14 campaign, the National Christian College Athletic Association has chosen Arrese Cortadellas of its national women’s golf student-athlete of the week honor, which was announced Tuesday.
Arrese Cortadellas, a junior from Barcelona, Spain, was honored by the NCCAA for her performance in last week’s Kickingbird Classic at Kickingbird Golf Course in Edmond.
After shooting a first-round 78 on the par-70, 5,824-yard course, Arrese Cortadellas overcame gusty winds to post a final-round 70 to finish tied for second individually. She led the Lady Eagles to the program’s first-ever team title in a tournament that included three NCAA Division II top-25 squads, a top-five NAIA squad and five other teams that received votes in the most recent Division II coaches’ poll.
With her second-place finish, she extended her remarkable streak of top-10 finishes and is now 22-for-22 in her college career in that category.
Arrese Cortadellas now has won a whopping 12 national player-of-the-week awards while at OC, having taken the NAIA weekly honor twice during her freshman season.
