Cowan, Blonien win stroke play titles, advance to match play in OGA Junior

For the second time in less than a week, Ryder Cowan of Edmond has won an Oklahoma Golf Association championship by playoff.

Last Thursday Cowan won the OGA Stroke Play Championship at The Territory in a three-hole playoff over Oklahoma State’s Jordan Wilson. On Tuesday at Lincoln Park West,, he shot a final-round 6-under 65 to forge a tie with Parker Sands of Edmond in the stroke play portion of the OGA Junior Championship, then won it with a birdie on the par-5 first hole.

Sands led Cowan by a shot after shooting a first-round 9-under 62 to Cowan’s 63, then fired a final-round 66 as the two tied at 14-under 128 through regulation.

Samuel Bonaobra of Broken Arrow shot consecutive rounds of 67 to take third place at 8-under. Grant Gudgel of Stillwater registered a 66 after an opening 71 to tie for fourth with Sam Morris of Tulsa (68-69) and C.J. Phillips of Edmond (68-69).

The top 16 boys in ages 14-15 and 16-18 will advance to the Match Play Championship beginning Wednesday. The semifinals and finals are Thursday.

The girls division was won by Natalie Blonien of Altus, who shot a 71 to edge Juliana Hong of Norman by a shot. Blonien finished at 144 (73-71) while Hong shot 71-74. Third place went to Spencere Holleyman of Edmond at 151 (75-76) while Jaiden Gregston of Duncan was fourth at 152 (75-77).

The top 16 girls will advance to match play.
