Ryder Cowan continued his highly successful summer by earning one of three spots available Monday in a U.S. Amateur qualifier held at Rose Creek Golf Club in Edmond.

The qualifiers were Jonathan Bale of Jupiter, Fla., who shot 8-under 136 after rounds of 70-66, 16-year-old high school junior Nathan Miller of Dallas (67-69 – 136), and Cowan, who shot consecutive rounds of 69 to finish at 6-under 138.

Cowan won a one-hole playoff with Stephen Carney of Tulsa, who is first alternate. Cowan also edged out Carney in the quarterfinals of the OGA State Amateur Championship last week at Southern Hills. Second alternate is Conrad Walcher of Edmond, who shot 68-72.

Cowan has won the OGA Junior Championship, OGA Stroke Play Championship and finished second to William McDonald in the OGA State Amateur Championship this summer. He will be a freshman at the University of Oklahoma this fall.

The 2023 U.S. Amateur is scheduled Aug. 14-20 at Cherry Hills Country Club in Cherry Hills Village, Colo.
