Cowboys earn third seed, face No. 2 Wake Forest in East Lake Cup
ATLANTA – Oklahoma State’s men’s golf team fired a 4-over 292 on Monday at the East Lake Cup to earn the No. 3 seed entering match play at East Lake Golf Club.
Texas took the top team spot with a 10-under 278. Tuesday, OSU takes on No. 2-seeded Wake Forest in one semifinal, while Texas and Vanderbilt will clash in the other.
“We got off to a very good start, I liked that,” OSU head coach Alan Bratton said. “We played the easy holes fairly well but we gave away some shots during the middle of the round.”
Junior Austin Eckroat finished sixth in the individual stroke play portion with a 1-under 71 and was one of just six in the men’s field to finish under par. Eckroat started strong with an eagle on No. 1 before rolling in a birdie on No. 2.
“I hit a good tee ball on the first and then a good hybrid onto the green,” Eckroat said. “The putt I made was crazy, it was really cool.”
Sophomore Aman Gupta and freshman Brian Stark each recorded top-10 finishes with 1-over 73s.
Freshman Rayhan Thomas finished tied for 13th place with a 3-over 75. Fellow freshman Hazen Newman turned in 4-over 76, tying him for 17thplace.
The Cowboys first tee off at 12:55 p.m. (EST) on Tuesday. Live coverage on Golf Channel begins at 3 p.m. (EST).
