Cowboys move into second at The Prestige
LA QUINTA, Calif.—Oklahoma State’s men’s golf team moved into sole possession of second place at The Prestige at PGA WEST after firing a 275 during its second round on Tuesday at the Nicklaus Tournament Course.
Through 36 holes, the Cowboys stand at 555, 21-under, and just two shots out of the top spot held by Arizona State, which carded a 274 during its second round. Stirling University dipped into third place at the par-72, 7,204-yard layout after posting a 283 for a 559 score.
A pair of Sun Devils shared the top spot in the individual race with Max Rottluff and Jon Rahm posting rounds of 66 and 70, respectively, to come in with 8-under 136 totals.
Two of the three players tied for third at 137 came courtesy of the Cowboy starting five. Junior Jordan Niebrugge fired a 68 to move up five spots, while freshman Kristoffer Ventura followed an opening 68 with a 69 to get to his 7-under total.
After opening with a 67, sophomore Zachary Olsen posted a 71 to stand at 6-under 138, tying him for sixth place.
Sophomore Wyndham Clark shaved 10 strokes off his opening 77, firing a 67 on Tuesday to move up 40 spots into a tie for 31st place at even-par 144.
Freshman Sam Stevens carded a 73 to stand at 149 and tied for 54th place.
Senior Tanner Kesterson, who is competing individually, finished the day tied for 59th place at 150 after posting a 73.
The Cowboys will begin their final round tomorrow at 9 a.m. (PST) and will be grouped with Stirling and Arizona State.
