Cowgirls rally in final round to claim NCAA Championship berth

EAST LANSING, Mich. – Oklahoma State women’s golf posted the program’s lowest round ever in an NCAA Regional on Wednesday, carding a 9-under 279 to finish second at the NCAA East Lansing Regional and punch its ticket to the NCAA Championships.

After entering the final 18 in a two-way tie for seventh and four shots back of the line to advance, the Cowgirls jumped five teams in the leaderboard to etch its best placement at a regional since 2007 and its second-lowest 54-hole score in the setting, ending with rounds of 291-289-279 – 859. USC took home the team championship, finishing 9-under 855.

Individually, Maddison Hinson-Tolchard and Marta Silchenko finished top 10 in the field, with Hinson-Tolchard ending on the podium in third and Silchenko tied for seventh. Lauren Beaudreau of Notre Dame took home the individual title at Forest Akers Golf Course, firing 12-under.

The tournament marked the best finish of the season by Hinson-Tolchard and Silchenko’s first top-10 placement as a Cowgirl.

Hinson-Tolchard opened the day steady with eight pars before piecing together two birdies to cap the front nine. The back-to-back Big 12 Player of the Year posted a trio of birdies on the back nine and neared a bogey-free round – marking only one during day three.

Concluding play with rounds of 70-70-68 – 208, Hinson-Tolchard was one of four players in the field to shoot under par in all three rounds.

Silchenko provided a surge for the Cowgirls, carding birdies on four of her first six holes to finish the front nine 3-under par. In the back nine, the freshman went bogey-free and added birdies on holes No. 13 and 17 to finish the round at 5-under 67.

The freshman’s final-round effort was her lowest round as a Cowgirl and tied the day’s individual low score.

Angelica Pfefferkorn set the tone for the Cowgirls’ round, starting with a birdie and never looking back. Across action, the senior posted seven birdies in the round – tied for the most on the day – en route to a 1-under 71.

The Cowgirls combined for 21 birdies in the final round after posting 25 in the first two days of action.

Thitaporn Saithip ended the final round with a 1-over 73, using birdies on hole Nos. 16 and 17 to push the Cowgirls onto the podium.

Ellie Bushnell added the Cowgirls’ lone eagle of the tournament and the fourth of her career on the par-4, hole No. 5, finishing out tied for 31st with a 3-over 75.

Next up, Oklahoma State will make its fourth-straight trip to the NCAA Championships from May 17-22 at Omni La Costa Resort & Spa in Carlsbad, California.
