STILLWATER – The Oklahoma State women’s golf team further fortified its 2020 roster with the signing of Rina Tatematsu to a National Letter of Intent.

“After getting to know Rina throughout the recruiting process, there’s no doubt she is the type of person and player that will fit right in with the direction we’re wanting to take this program,” said OSU head coach Greg Robertson. “She’s a very experienced player on an international level having played on the Thai National Team and in many professional events. She will add to an already deep team and create even more competition within this young, talented group. We are looking forward to Rina joining us this coming year.”

No stranger to top-flight competition, the Bangkok, Thailand native participated in nine pro event throughout Asia as an amateur over the last two seasons.

On January 22, Tatematsu won the Honda LPGA Thailand National Qualifier in a playoff to earn a spot in the prestigious LPGA Tour event. Unfortunately, the event, which was set for Feb. 20-23 at the Siam Country Club Pattaya, was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

In 2019, Tatematsu finished 32nd at the Women’s Amateur Asia-Pacific Championship in Japan and earned a 12th place finish at the Major Champions Invitational at Bella Collina in North Carolina.

She recently won the TKG STCC International and posted a sixth-place finish at the USCC Golf Camp at Watermill Golf & Resort, which are both junior events in her homeland of Thailand.

Tatematsu joins Maddison Hinson-Tolchard as newcomers to the 2020-21 Cowgirl golf roster. The Perth, Australia native was the runner-up at the 2019 IMG Academy Junior World Championship, and has been ranked as high as No. 276 in the World Amateur Golf Rankings.

The Cowgirls finished the abbreviated 2019-20 season ranked No. 16 by Golfweek and No. 17 by GolfStat. Freshman Isabella Fierro earned All-America honors from both the Women’s Golf Coaches Association and Golfweek, while five Cowgirls – Bailey Benton, Michelle Forsland, Faith Hopkins, Emma Whitaker and Han-Hsuan Yu – earned First Team Academic All-Big 12 honors.
