Dalke’s 69 helps Sooners move up to fourth in Southern Highlands Collegiate

LAS VEGAS – The No. 8 Oklahoma men’s golf team moved into a tie for fourth place during the second round of the Southern Highlands Collegiate on Tuesday. The three-day, 54-hole tournament is being played at the par-72, 7,374-yard Southern Highlands Golf Club in Las Vegas.

OU shot 284 (-4) during the second round, which ranked as the lowest team score during Tuesday’s 18 holes. Heading into Wednesday’s final round, the Sooners sit in a tie for fourth place with Pepperdine at 577 (+1), just three shots back of the lead.

“Under par was a very solid round today,” OU head coach Ryan Hybl said. “It will take all five of our guys tomorrow to go out and do something special. We love it out here and our guys feel good.”

TCU leads the 15-team field with a two-day score of 574 (-2) after carding a 287 (-1) on Tuedsay. Host UNLV and Florida are one shot back of the lead going into the final round at 575 (-1), two strokes ahead of the Sooners and Pepperdine.

Junior Brad Dalke leads the Sooners through 36 holes, two shots back of the individual lead at 140 (-4). Dalke turned in a 69 (-3) during Tuesday’s round to record his team-leading 10th round in the 60s this season, while picking up five birdies. The junior heads into Wednesday’s final round trailing USC’s Justin Sun, who leads the way at 138 (-6).

Redshirt sophomore Thomas Johnson climbed into a tie for 17th at 145 (+1) after posting a 72 (E) during the second round. The Norman, Okla., native was consistent throughout the day, posting two birdies.

Senior Grant Hirschman shares 36th place with a two-day total of 147 (+3) after shooting 75 (+3) in the second round.

Rounding out OU’s lineup, redshirt sophomore Quade Cummins and sophomore Garett Reband are tied for 48th place after two rounds. Reband carded a 71 (-1) on Tuesday, while Cummins finished with an even-par 72.

The final round of the Southern Highlands Collegiate is scheduled for Wednesday. The Sooners will begin at 11:50 a.m. CT from hole No. 1 and will be paired with Alabama and Pepperdine.
