Bryant Polhill, Parker Sands and Ryder Cowan, all of Edmond, each shot 5-under par rounds of 66 to share the lead after the first round of the Oklahoma Golf Association Junior Boys & Girls Championship at Lincoln Park Golf Course Monday.

On the girls side, Jenni Roller of Tulsa kept up her sterling play this spring, firing a 66 of her own to take a four-shot lead over Natalie Blonien of Altus.

The boys field features nearly every top junior in the state. Right behind the leaders are Jack Pfister of Edmond and Jake Hopper of Norman with rounds of 67. Drew Mabrey of Tulsa, Josh Stewart of Blanchard and CJ Phillips of Emond shot 68, while Southern Methodist signee William Sides of Tulsa is in a group at 69 with Kyle McLaughlin of Oklahoma City, Sutton McMillan of Choctaw, Cole Luber of Yukon and Parker Payne of Norman.

Grant Gudgel of Stillwater, the current Class 6A state champion and one of the state’s hottest golfers coming in, will have work to do to make the field of 16 that advances to match play Wednesday. He shot 73 and is tied for 30th. Mesa Falleur, who earlier this week qualified for the U.S. Junior Amateur, shot 75.

The top 16 boys ages 14-15 will advance into a younger bracket.

Roller, who has signed with the University of Tulsa, won her past two events in impressive fashion, shooting a first-round 62 at Lake Murray in romping to the Class 3A state title, than firing a 7-under 66 at Southern Hills Country Club to win the Oklahoma Junior Masters.
