RAYMORE, Mo. – The Oral Roberts women’s golf team led from start to finish and posted the top two individual finishers as well, as the Golden Eagles claimed a 20-shot victory at the Kansas City Intercollegiate Tuesday. ORU shot 879 (292-288-299) for the win, while Beatriz Garcia posted a school record 211 for the individual medalist honors.
Garcia finished a tournament under par for the first time in her career, finishing at -5 for a school record 211 and a four shot victory over teammate Sarah Bell.
The 879 shot by the Golden Eagles is the fourth best round in school history. ORU shot 869 on the par 71 course at Hobble Creek in 2017, and twice (2011, 2015) shot 872 at the Jackrabbit Invitational in Primm, Nevada.
Garcia’s win on Tuesday was just the second individual victory since 2014 for ORU after Kennedy Ishee won the ORU Spring Break Invite in 2018.
ORU claimed its first team title since winning the Jackrabbit Invitational in 2015 and its largest margin of victory since winning the 2011 Summit League Championship by 27 shots.
Bell matched her season low of 215 to finish runner-up, her highest finish of the year and third top five finish.
Playing as an individual, Rachel Dupree found her stroke to finish inside the top 10 for the first time this season and besting her previous season best by 18 strokes.
Including the two individuals, all seven ORU golfers finished inside the top 35 of the event.
