Gooch, Sparks, Worrell, Davis shine on opening day of Web.Com Tour first stage

The first stage of qualifying school for the 2015 Web.Com Tour got under way at five locations Tuesday and several Oklahoma players got off to great starts.

 At Lantana Golf Club in Lantana, Texas, the field is playing 72 holes with no cut and the top 32 and ties will advance to second stage. Former Oklahoma State golfer Talor Gooch of Choctaw fired an opening round of 5-under 67 and is tied for fourth. Hunter Sparks of Oklahoma City shot 68 and is tied for seventh, while Dillon Rust of Edmond shot a 2-under 70 and is tied for 24th.

Former University of Tulsa golfer Stephen Carney of Tulsa shot 72 and is tied for 46th while Greg Mason of Jenks shot 74 and is tied for 64th.

 At the Woodlands near Houston, Chris Worrell of Jenks shot a 4-under 68 and is tied for sixth, as did former OU golfer Abraham Ancer. Cameron Meyers of Edmond shot 1-under 71 and is tied for 27th. Former Oklahoma City University golfer James Marchesani shot 75 and is tied for 64th while former Enid resident Lance Combrink shot 78 and is 73rd.

At Arbor Links Golf Course in Nebraska City, former Oklahoma State golfer Ian Davis of Edmond shot a 1-under 71 and is tied for seventh. Another former Cowboy, Trent Whitekiller of Sallisaw, shot 3-over 75 and is tied for 35th. Vilhelm Bogstrand of Edmond managed a 76 and is tied for 41st, while Logan McCracken of Oklahoma City was 74th after a disappointing 82. The top 31 and ties will advance from this site.
