Goodwin, Rigsby lead Oklahoma Christian women in Dallas Baptist Classic

DALLAS (Oct. 9, 2017) – Oklahoma Christian golfers Kate Goodwin and Abigail Rigsby each shot an under-par round on Monday and finished the day in the top 10 in a competitive field at the Dallas Baptist Women’s Fall Classic.

Goodwin opened with a 1-under 71 at The Golf Club of Dallas and was tied for sixth after two rounds at 148, while Rigsby recovered from an opening-round 78 with a 71 of her own, moving her into a tie for eighth in the 66-woman field at 149.

Goodwin, a junior from Tulsa, finished with six birdies in her 36 holes, while Rigsby, a sophomore from Courtenay, British Columbia, had six birdies and an eagle, in the second round on the par-5 No. 14.

OC posted team scores of 301 and 305 on the 6,020-yard course and the Lady Eagles’ 606 score was third in a 12-team field that includes five squads that played in a NCAA Division II regional tournament, two of which finished in the top five at last year’s Division II Championship. The two latter teams were the top two on Monday – Dallas Baptist (Texas) at 578 and St. Mary’s (Texas) at 591.

A third OC player, junior Elizabeth Freeman, was in the top 20, tied for 16th at 151 after shooting rounds of 75 and 76. She led the field in pars with 26.

OC sophomore Ashton Nemecek also recorded an eagle – on her second hole in the first round, and posted rounds of 77 and 81. She was tied for 33rd at 158. Freshman Shaley Goad had a roller coaster of a day, recording six birdies along the way while shooting a 78 and an 82. At 160, she was tied for 42nd.

Evelyn Arguelies of Dallas Baptist held the individual lead at 140.

The final round will begin at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday.

Rogers State is in ninth place after a two-round score of 622 (316-306).  Jess Whitting is in 18th place at 8-over-par 152. Junior Alex Massie ranks 22 at 153 after rounds of 77-76. Senior Mica Eastin carded a 9-over-par score of 81 in the first round and bounced back with a 76 for 13-over-par 157.

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. (Oct. 9, 2017) – Facing NCAA Division I competition for the first time this season, three Oklahoma Christian golfers were in the upper half of the field Monday after the first day of the Bill Ross Intercollegiate.

Juniors Ethan SmithJuan Pallach and Garrett White all posted solid-to-good rounds for the Eagles at Milburn Golf and Country Club.

Smith shot a 1-under-par 71 in the second round on the 7,054-yard course and was tied for 24th in the 69-man field at 147. One shot back was Pallach, tied for 28th after rounds of 76 and 72, and White was another shot back, tied for 30th after shooting a 73 and a 76.

OC – the only non-Division I squad among the 12 teams in the tournament – posted team scores of 300 and 294 and was eighth at 594. Grand Canyon led the team race at 572, two shots ahead of host Missouri-Kansas City.

The Eagles’ other two players in the tournament are Cameron Brown, who shot a pair of 75s and was in a tie for 39th at 150, and Ryan Trousdale, who posted an 80 and a 76 and was tied for 63rd at 156.

The individual leader was Matt Tolan of South Dakota, at 6-under 138.

The final round will begin at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday.
