Hale, Dalke push Sooners into third-place tie early in The Goodwin

NORMAN – The No. 6 Oklahoma men’s golf team is tied for third place after the first round of The Goodwin. The three-day, 54-hole tournament is being played at the par-71, 7,143-yard TPC Harding Park in San Francisco, Calif.

The Sooners carded a 279 (-5) during the opening round of action on Thursday against a competitive 25-team field and head into Friday’s second round just two strokes back of the lead.

Host Stanford leads after the first 18 holes at 277 (-7) followed by Northwestern at 278 (-6). The Sooners head into Friday’s second round sharing third place with Oregon, who also recorded a 279 (-5) Thursday. UNLV and California are tied for fifth at 282 (-2) after the first round.

Junior Blaine Hale posted his lowest round of the spring on Thursday, recording a 67 (-4) to lead the Sooners during round one. Hale logged five birdies on his scorecard during the round and is in fifth place on the individual leaderboard through 18 holes.

“It was a very good day for Blaine and Brad (Dalke),” OU head coach Ryan Hybl said. “They did a nice job finishing. We did not take advantage on the par 5s, but we will be better tomorrow in the morning. Our guys feel good out here and we just need to see some more putts fall in.”

Junior Brad Dalke picked up his team-leading 12th round in the 60s, shooting 69 during the first round. Dalke is tied for 10th after the first 18 holes and finished strong with three birdies on the back nine.

Sophomore Riley Casey is tied for 26th after the first round, finishing with an even-par 71 during Thursday’s first day of action. Redshirt sophomore Quade Cummins carded a 73 (+1) and shares 45th place.

Senior Grant Hirschman recorded a 75 (+4) in the first round and is tied for 89th place.

OU tees off round two at The Goodwin on Friday at 10:25 a.m. CT from hole No. 10. OU is paired with Cal and Stanford.
