John Helzer tied the course record at Lake Hefner North Course with a masterful 10-under 62, leading his home schooled Oklahoma City Storm team to a 27-shot victory in the P.C. North Varsity Boys Tournament.
Helzer made 10 birdies and no bogeys in his flawless round. His teammates chipped in with a 7-under 65 by Emerson Majma, a 68 by Tripp Anderson, a 70 by Caleb Foster and a 71 by Ledger Green.
The 62 tied a record set previously by Southern Nazarene’s Michael Hearne in the GAC Preview in 2013.
The Storm shot 23-under, while Piedmont was second in the field at 4-over.
The Oklahoma City Storm is comprised of some of the best home-school golfers in Oklahoma City and does not compete for the state championships conducted by the Oklahoma Secondary Schools Activities Association.
