Herron grabs lead with opening 62 salvo in Oklahoma Open
Carson Herron, a former University of New Mexico golfer from Minnetonka, Minn., fired an 8-under-par 62 to take a 2-shot lead after the first round of the 111th Oklahoma Open at Oak Tree Country Club in Edmond.
Herron, the son of four-time PGA Tour winner Tim Herron, leads Tyson Reeder of Edmond and John Sand of Hoquiam, Wa., by two shots after both shot 6-under 64. The 62 was three shots behind the tournament record 59 shot by Parker Sands of Edmond in 2023.
PGA Tour member and Oak Tree National member Max McGreevy was among those at 4-under 66 after as was fellow OTN member and Korn Ferry Tour member Rhein Gibson. Also shooting 66 was former University of Tulsa golfer and long-time professional Logan McCracken of Oklahoma City along Colin Richards of Powell, Ohio.
Hayden Wood of Edmond, Mike Biata of Owasso, amateur Cooper Watson of Lawton and Jake McCrory of Deer Park, Texas shot 3-under 67.
The tournament on the Pete Dye-designed East Course continues with second-round action Friday after which the field of 144 will be cut to the low 40 and ties for the final round. Attendance is free. Follow live scoring here.
