Hughett finishes a stroke back in Heron Creek Senior Invitational

Michael Hughett of Owasso missed a 3-foot birdie putt on the 17th hole and that proved the difference as he finished second by one shot to Bob Jacobs (Valparaiso, Ind.) in the Heron Creek Senior Invitational at Heron Creek Golf & Country Club in North Port, Fla.

In the second national senior rankings points event of 2021, the 56-year-old Jacobs shot even-par 72 in the final round to hold off Hughett, who shot 73 and finished alone in second at 4-over. Both players started the day a shot behind the overnight leader Marcus Beck (Tallahassee, Fla.).
Jacobs, who shared the lead after an opening-round 70, finished at 3-over 219 to edge Hughett, who won the Dixie Senior Amateur to close out 2020.Steve Groom (Raytown, Mo.) was third at 8 over, while Bob Bailey (Yorktown, Va.) and Brigham Gibbs (Salt Lake City, Utah) tied for fourth, another shot back.

The Senior Florida Swing continues with the Golfweek Senior Player of the Year Classic at Lake Jovita Golf & Country Club in Dade City, starting January 16.
