Hughett, Norton, Alsup knocked out in second round of U.S. Senior Amateur Championship

ST. LOUIS, Mo. – A day after earning medalist honors, Tim Jackson was one of 32 winners in the 62nd U.S. Senior Amateur Championship on Monday at Old Warson Country Club, which played at 6,899 yards for the Round of 64.

The U.S. Senior Amateur is one of 13 annual national championships conducted by the USGA, 10 of which are strictly for amateurs. The championship is open to amateurs at least 55 years of age with a Handicap Index® not exceeding 7.4. It consists of two rounds of stroke play – one each on Saturday and Sunday. The low 64 scorers began match play on Monday and the Round of 32 and Round of 16 will both be played on Tuesday. It concludes with an 18-hole final on Thursday.

Mike Hughett of Owasso, the most decorated amateur in Oklahoma Golf Association history, won his first-round match against Stan Namola of Beaver, Pa., in 19 holes. However he lost his second round match against 2014 champion Patrick Tallent in 19 holes.

Former Oral Roberts University standout Bryan Norton won his first-round match against Tom Brandes of Bellevue, Wash., but was edged by Jackson in the second round today. Mike Alsup of Tulsa finished 20th in the qualifying and defeated David Apperson of Memphis 1 up in the first round. He lost to Wayne Wright of Aledo, Texas, 2 and 1 in the second round.
