Less than a week after winning the South Central PGA Assistant’s Championship, Thomas Johnson of Oklahoma City continued his torrid play by tying for first in the U.S. Open Local Qualifying tournament held Monday at The Territory in Duncan.

Johnson, an assistant professional at Gaillardia Country Club in Oklahoma City, shot 5-under par to tie amateur Kevin An of Riverside, Calif., and grab one of six qualifying spots available to advance to sectional qualifying.

University of Oklahoma golfer P.J. Maybank, not starting for the Sooners as they battle for the Big 12 Championship in Trinity, Texas, shot a 4-under 68 to take third. Former Oklahoma State great Bo Van Pelt was in a three-way tie for fourth with amateur Brady Porter of Lawton and Zander Winston of Dallas at 2-under. The alternate spot was earned by Christopher Brown of Fort Worth, Texas at 1-under.

Among those who finished at even-par 72 was host professional Austin Peters, Jordan Wilson of Edmond, Austin Hannah of Tulsa and Matt Mabrey of Sand Springs.
