Lane Wallace wins, ORU second in Bobby Nichols Intercollegiate
SEVIERVILLE, Tenn. – Oral Roberts men’s golfer Lane Wallace was victorious Tuesday as the individual co-champion of the Bobby Nichols Intercollegiate as three Golden Eagles finished top 10 and the team finished second in Sevierville, Tennessee. Wallace is a transfer from the University of Oklahoma.
Due to weather in the eastern Tennessee area Sunday, the tournament was changed to a two-round 36-hole competition. After finishing day one with a 277 (-11) score the Golden Eagles sat in second place headed into the final round. ORU shot a 282 (-6) in the final round to finish with a 559 (-17) scorecard to place second overall. Combined, the Golden Eagles shot 39 birdies in the two rounds played.
Wallace shot a 66 (-6) on day one and a 69 (-3) to finish with a 136 (-9) score to claim the individual co-championship. Wallace tied with Elliot MacGregor from Carson-Newman. He had 10 birdies in his two rounds of a play with a two-stroke birdie on No. 7 in round one.
Dustin Hasley had a 67 (-5) in round one and 69 (-3) in round two to turn in a 135 (-9) scorecard. Hasley finished in sixth overall for his third top-10 finish of the season. He had nine birdies including a two-stroke birdie on No. 3 in round one.
Hunter Laughlin was the third Golden Eagle to finish in the top 10 earning a 140 (-4) score. Laughlin had a 71 (-1) score in round one and a 69 (-3) in round two. He had seven birdies overall with five on day two. He hit back-to-back birdies on No. 13 and 14 in round two.
ORU next heads to Springfield, Missouri, to play in the Twin Oaks Intercollegiate beginning Monday, March 21.
