Majma, Gregory stand out in Lake Hefner Spring Challenge

Emerson Majma of Edmond, one of the state’s most highly-touted up-and-comers, broke through for his first Oklahoma Junior Golf Tour victory Sunday, winning the Lake Hefner Spring Challenge by four shots over his frequent PGA Junior League teammate Ainslie Stanford III of Edmond by three shots. Harlow Gregory of Norman edged Elle Daniels of Norman in a two-hole playoff to win the girls division.

Majma opened with a blazing 65 and followed with a second-round 71 to shoot 4-under 136 Stanford shot rounds of 69-70 to finish at 1-under.

Ben Lathrop of Oklahoma City (75-67),  Austen Mueller of Yukon (73-69), Parker Pogue of Ada (71-71) and Roger Smith of Oklahoma City (72-70) tied for third at 142.

Gegory shot rounds of 75-76 and won the second playoff hole over Daniels, who also shot 75-76. Syrah Javed of Norman took third at 154, three shots behind after rounds of 81-73. Kylie Hopper of Springfield, Mo., was fourth at 158 and Sophia Lefler of Tulsa was fifth at 160.
