Mason Haley earns first-team Summit League honors, joins ORU’s Kevin An

SIOUX FALLS – Kansas City freshman golfer Mason Haley was named to the Summit League’s First Team All-League and All-Freshman team in his first year as a Roo, as was announced by the league this afternoon. Haley was the lone freshman named first or second team all-league and was joined by Weber State’s Matthew Wilson as the only first year students to be selected to any of the three all-league lists.

Two Oral Roberts University golfers – Kevin An and Ben Gratzl  – each received post season honors.

Haley has been a leader for KC throughout the season, notching a 72.5 stroke per round average to lead the team and rank third in the Summit. The Enid native led the Roos’ scoring efforts in 6-of-10 events played this season and went for a team-best three top-10 finishes on the year. He was responsible for six of the team’s top-10 lowest scoring rounds this season, including a six-under third round and the Everett Buick GMC Classic in October, the third-best single round score in the league this year.

He was twice named the Summit League’s Peak Performer of the Week, earning his first award on Sep. 19 after an eighth place finish at the Wildcat Invitational and then again on Feb. 27 after tying for eighth at the Lake Las Vegas Invitational.

Kansas City’s quest for a third-straight Summit League title begins on Sunday as the Roos travel to Longbow Golf Course in Mesa, Ariz. for three days of championship golf.

An led the top-seeded Golden Eagles with a 73.0 stroke average and 10 rounds of par or better this season. He racked up his second all-league honor after earning an honorable mention nod last season.

Haley and Oral Roberts’ Ben Gratzl were on the all-freshman team.
