McGreevy looking to add third Oklahoma Open title to collection

One slight misstatement made Wednesday at an otherwise engaging press conference for the Korn Ferry Tour’s Compliance Solutions Championship coming to The Patriot this fall is that this is Oklahoma’s only regularly scheduled professional event.
Actually, the 111th version of the Oklahoma Open begins today at Oak Tree Country Club and with past champions such as Bob Dickson, Danny Edwards, Mark Hayes, Lindy Miller, Gil Morgan, Doug Tewell, Tom Jones, Bob Tway, Willie Wood, David Edwards, Lucas Glover, Robert Streb, Rhein Gibson, Josh Creel, Max McGreevy and Blaine Hale among many other notables, it has a long, proud tradition as one of the top state opens in the country.
The 54-hole event this year has a purse of $65,000 that will be pursued by several past champions with PGA Tour credentials. McGreevy, who won the Oklahoma Open in both 2017 and 2019 and finished second to Hale in 2023, is the lone player with full PGA Tour status in the field, but Gibson, who won in 2010, is representing the Korn Ferry Tour.
A large part of the field will consist of mini-tour players looking to break into the Korn Ferry Tour but there is a sizable contingent of interesting amateurs from Oklahoma to keep an eye on. The field of 144 will be cut to low 40 and ties after Friday’s second round. Live scoring is here.
And those scores will likely be low this year, considering the heat of the past several weeks has left bent grass greens soft and vulnerable.
To name a few of the strong amateur contingent from Oklahoma competing are Ben Lathrop of Oklahoma City, Sam Morris of Tulsa, Bryant Polhill of Edmond, Emerson Majma of Edmon, Rhett Hughes of Edmond, Ty Neatherlin of Edmond, Will Whorton of Norman, Christian Johnson of Edmond and Baylor Bostick of Duncan.
Among the young Oklahoma pros looking to add their names to the ancient trophy include rookie Jaxon Dowell of Edmond, Tyson Reeder of Edmond, Mason Overstreet of Kingfisher, Jordan Wilson of Edmond, Hayden Wood of Edmond, Carson Griggs of Sand Springs, Ty Stites of Sallisaw and Mike Biata of Owasso, to name just a few.
