Mihaich wins SAC title for OCU, Stars take second, Oklahoma Christian fourth
FORT WORTH, Texas – Leandro Mihaich of Oklahoma City University came away with the Sooner Athletic Conference men’s golf individual championship Tuesday at Waterchase Golf Club.
Mihaich earned the conference title by three strokes. Oklahoma City, ranked ninth in the NAIA, took second place in the team standings.
Mihaich, a freshman from Córdoba, Argentina, racked up his first career victory with a 67-71-70–208. Mihaich topped the tournament with 15 birdies with three birdies and only one bogey in the last round.
The Stars produced a 287-294-290–871 on the par-72, 7,085-yard course. Wayland Baptist (Texas), ranked 11th nationally, grabbed the conference title with a 286-291-284–861. No. 14 Texas Wesleyan posted a 300-287-286–873, while No. 21 Southwestern Christian shot a 297-305-293–895.
Science & Arts finished fifth with a 312-307-306–925 followed by Panhandle State (312-314-308–934) and Central Christian (Kan.) (323-315-317–954).
OCU’s Dylan Teeter took sixth with a 71-74-72–217. Teeter, a sophomore from Bixby, Okla., studying accounting, sank 14 birdies, five on the final day. Alex Bloxham, a freshman from Broken Arrow, Okla., majoring in business administration, provided the Stars with a 75-73-75–223, tied for 11th.
Tres Hill, a sophomore from Elk City, Okla., studying finance, came up with a 74-76-74–224 to tie for 14th. Cameron Lopez carded a final-round 38-36–74.
The NAIA Championships will be May 16-19 at Las Sendas Golf Club in Mesa, Ariz. Pairings and qualifiers for the tournament will be released May 5. Oklahoma City has taken 11 national championships in 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2006, 2007, 2010, 2012, 2013, 2016 and 2018.
